Black Academy: Tracing Afro-Descendant History from Research to Educational Impact

My name is Alvice AFANOU, and I am currently serving as Program Manager for Youth and Inclusion at the NGO PLACE for Africa. My main mission is to develop and support initiatives that promote youth participation, social inclusion, and the transmission of Afro-descendant histories and cultures.
Over the years, I have had the opportunity to participate in and coordinate various projects focused on themes such as climate justice, education for sustainable development, and inclusion. I have also taken part in exchange programs between Benin and Germany, where I gained valuable experience in intercultural collaboration. In addition, I actively engage with youth associations in my community, contributing to the design and execution of projects that address key community needs.
For me, joining the ASA Program 2025 is an opportunity to contribute to the recognition and promotion of Afro-descendant histories. Too often rendered invisible, these stories deserve to be preserved and celebrated every day. Through this program, I aim to further develop my skills in research and pedagogy while contributing to the creation of accessible educational tools.
