Invitation to the Conference of Community Actors of the SAMIO Project_15.11.2025-10 a.m.

“1884–2025: From the Berlin Conference to Today – Working in Anti-Racist and Decolonial Ways in Mannheim”
On November 15, 1884, the so-called Berlin Conference began in Berlin – a turning point in the history of Africa’s colonization. At this conference, the European colonial powers divided the African continent among themselves. Borders were drawn arbitrarily, based on colonial and racist beliefs.

141 years later – on November 15, 2025 – the project SAMIO – In Solidarity, Critically and Creatively Against Institutional Racism in Mannheim invites you to its Community Actor Conference.
📍 Location: Nationaltheater Mannheim, Mozartstraße 9, 68161 Mannheim
🕙 Time: 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Since its kick-off event in spring 2025, as well as through numerous working meetings and two think tanks –
📅 on June 23, 2025 (Racism in the Context of Security and Policing) and
📅 on September 30, 2025 (Anti-Racist Educational Institutions) –
the SAMIO project has provided important impulses for exchange, networking, and critical reflection on racism.
Now, together with Mannheim residents, representatives of initiatives, institutions, and actors in political education, we aim to develop a strategic recommendation paper for the City of Mannheim on anti-racism. In doing so, we will draw on the results of previous think tanks, working meetings, and contributions, and align with existing tools and strategies already in place in Mannheim and beyond – for example, the City of Mannheim’s accession to the European Coalition of Cities against Racism (ECCAR) in 2024.
We look forward to a day full of exchange, reflection, and shared perspectives.
