Lecture | How has colonial history been told—and how is it still being told—both in Germany and in formerly colonized countries? How do these narratives continue to shape the present day? The lecture highlights how certain representations still influence economic, social, and cultural structures, whether through street names, monuments, or everyday perceptions in countries such as Burundi, Namibia, Cameroon, Togo, Benin, and beyond. Finally, current processes of decolonization will be explored, including the renaming of streets, the restitution of cultural artifacts, the critical reassessment of colonial collections, and changes in education systems—both globally and at the local level in Mannheim.
