Establishment of an informal research network for doctoral students in the field of Black Studies by the professor. DR. Natasha A. Kelly

Purpose:

Within the framework of an informal colloquium, I would like to establish a research network for doctoral students working on topics in the field of Black Studies. This initiative is aligned with the goals of the Second Decade of People of African Descent (2025-2034), which was proclaimed by the United Nations under the motto Recognition, Justice and Development. The aim of the network is to create a space for regular exchange, scientific discussions and mutual support. The long-term aim is to to transform this network into a funded and structured research group.

Who can participate?

All students are invited who see themselves as people of African origin in the sense of the United Nations of African descent in the sense of the United Nations and are pursuing a doctorate in Black Studies or related disciplines. This includes, in particular, approaches from the humanities, social sciences and educational sciences. Other interdisciplinary fields that deal with the experiences and culture of Black, African and Afro-diasporic people and intersectional perspectives are also welcome. It is not mandatory to be enrolled at a university or have a formal doctoral position.

Format of the meetings:

The meetings are held as a colloquium in which the participants present their current research topics, exchange ideas and support each other in the further development of their scientific work. The first meeting will be offered online to ensure maximum flexibility for everyone. Further formats such as master classes, workshops and network meetings are planned in the long term to further strengthen the network.

Goals:

  • Promotion of scientific exchange among doctoral candidates
  • Support in the establishment of academic partnerships
  • Further development of individual research perspectives
  • Long-term qualification for funding programs and research grants

Application:

Interested parties can introduce themselves with a short application (max. 1 page) in which they describe their current research topic, their motivation for participating in the group and the connection to Black Studies. The focus or a connection to German-speaking countries must be recognizable.

Application deadline: 13.06.2025

First date (online): 27.06.2025, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Further details on registration and the procedure of the first meeting will follow after receipt of the applications are received.
