The creativive contest 2022: “Life before colonialism” initiated by PLACE for Africa and MeineWelt e.V in collaboration with Goethe Institut Mannheim and the support of the city of Mannheim in Germany, came to an end on Saturday, November 26, 2022 online via zoom. This competition aimed to learn and share the diversity of pre-colonial societies, develop ancestral narration and decolonize history and historiography. At the end of six hours of a day full of exchanges through the different rooms of fairs to organizations, challenge debate the different winners were revealed.

The submission phase of this competition was launched on August 17, 2022 and ended on October 2, 2022 after several orientation sessions to help participants better understand what was required of them.  Forty-four submissions were received in article, video, audio and photo collage formats. After several weeks of exchange, discussion and analysis, the 14 members of an international jury were able to select 14 winners, 4 of whom received special awards in the video and art design categories.

They have just won the 2022 edition of this competition, whose ceremony kept the public in suspense for hours. This selection would not have been possible without the contribution of our 14 international jury members for their remarkable work in analyzing, evaluating and choosing our different winners.  The different works of the winners have seduced the public.

Nicole AMOUSSOU, coordinator of the Black Academy project, is proud of the enthusiasm that the contest has generated and the quality of the submissions received. She looks forward to seeing us in 2023 for an even more exciting edition.

She also underlines the efforts of deconstruction that must be made to rewrite the history of Black people. And, this is only the beginning of a transformational Black history initiative.

See you in 2023 for more great initiatives.
